The installer gave me an error about not being the correct platform.
Download the most recent copy of the installer, and use the version with the filename ending in “32”.
After installing, the “Insert Conferences i/o Slide” button is not there. And there were no errors during installation.
Follow the instructions for manually installing the Add-In, located later in this document.
When submitting a Slide Code in the Add-In, I get a weird error message and then another about ActiveX not being enabled.

Troubleshooting: Enable ActiveX controls

When trying to insert a Conferences i/o slide, PowerPoint says that an ActiveX control cannot be inserted.

ActiveX controls are required for our PowerPoint Add-In to function correctly, so if you see this message, we’re going to have to try a few things.

There are two primary pathways to enabling ActiveX controls: (1) PowerPoint's Trust Center, and (2) via the Windows Registry Editor.

Enabling ActiveX through Trust Center

1. From PowerPoint, browse to File -> Options -> Trust Center

2. Click on “Trust Center Settings”.

3. Click on the “ActiveX Settings” tab in the left panel.

4. Make sure that ActiveX has not been completely disabled.

If ActiveX has been completely disabled, you can enable it here and test to see if it solves your problem.

Enabling ActiveX via the Windows Registry Editor

We have occasionally seen this step become necessary, where security settings in Windows prevent the installer from completely doing its job (with a silent failure).

Unfortunately, as the heading sounds, updating the Windows Registry directly is fairly complex if you’ve never been in there before.

Here are the full instructions (directly from Microsoft):

Essentially, to work around this issue, you need to disable the 32-bit kill-bits by browsing to the proper location in your registry, and changing the value of the DWORD for the applicable class from from 1024 to 0.

Troubleshooting: Manually install the Add-In

Occasionally, the executable installer will not be able to make a required connection that allows the Add-In to be automatically loaded when PowerPoint starts. Even though the Add-In is present on your system, PowerPoint is not looking for it. So in this section, we’re going to tell PowerPoint where it is.

1. In PowerPoint go to File -> Options -> Add-ins

2. At the bottom of the dialog box is a "Manage" drop down box. Change it to "PowerPoint Add-ins" and then a new dialog box pops up.

3. Click "Add New".

4. Browse to wherever Conferences i/o was installed (usually Program Files -> Conferencesio) and select the Conferencesio.ppam file in the file chooser.

5. After returning to the previous dialog box, you should see “Conferencesio” listed among loaded Add-Ins. You can now close this dialog box.

At this point the Add-In should be manually installed, and accessible from the “Insert” ribbon.
