Overview

Creating a certificate of completion compliant with NASBA specifications is a simple process with Conference i/o's Certificate Template Builder. Using out-of-the-box functionality, the default certificate in Certificate Template Builder can be customized and completed in a few steps.

NASBA Requirements

Per NASBA's standards for CPE program reporting:

Standard No. 23. CPE program sponsors must provide program participants with documentation (electronic or paper) of their participation (certificate of completion), which includes the following:

  • CPE program sponsor name and contact information
  • Participant's name
  • Course title
  • Date offered or completed
  • If applicable, location
  • Type of instructional and delivery method used
  • Amount of CPE credit recommended by field(s) of study
  • Verification by CPE program sponsor representative
  • Sponsor identification number or registration number, if required by the state boards
  • NASBA time statement stating that CPE credits have been granted on a 50-minute hour
  • Any other statements required by boards of accountancy

NASBA also provides sample templates for their Group Live certificate and Group Internet Based certificate for reference.

Steps for Single-Session Certificate

Note: Attendance Tracking is an Add-On feature. If you do not see menu choices under the Admin area for Attendance Tracking and/or Certificate Template Builder, please contact your account manager or hello@conferences.io to discuss adding the feature.

  1. Sign-in to the Admin panel

  2. In the Admin Panel under Attendance Tracking, click Certificate Template Builder
  3. In Certificate Template Builder, click Customize Look & Feel on the default template

Note: Apps created or converted to Certificate Template Builder v3 after February 2022 have a default template. Apps created before that time with the v3 builder enabled may not have one. If the default template does not exist in an app, a new or existing template can be used instead.

  4. In the certificate builder, select fields that correspond with the required information from NASBA from the dropdown and click the + button to add it to the template.

These certificate builder fields correspond with the NASBA data requirements (see step 6 for highlighted fields):

    Amount of CPE credit earnedCredits
Signature of CEO/CE adminStatic Text / Image
    Registry Sponsor ID numberStatic Text
    Registry time statementStatic Text

Note: Conferences i/o's delivery format field displays the values "In-Person" and "Virtual", which are not the specific phrases NASBA standards indicate. To fully adhere to the standards, Conferences i/o recommends creating a template with the location of program in a static field indicating either "Group Live" or "Group Internet Based", then duplicate the template and replace the string with the other version.

  5. Replace the values in the highlighted static fields from the table above with the appropriate content. In the case of the CEO/CE admin signature, a static field with the Stylized Signature font may be used in lieu of an image bearing the signature.

Per NASBA standards, the time registry statement must be included in its entirety:

In accordance with the standards of the National Registry of CPE Sponsors, CPE credits have been granted based on a 50-minute hour.
  6. Move and/or resize each field as appropriate. Additionally, fields can have their font, font size, color, and alignment changed as desired. Below is a detailed example of placement and style choices that can be used:

Fields highlighted in blue are dynamic fields added from the dropdown menu.
Fields highlighted in yellow are static fields with specific lines of text added.
Fields highlighted in teal have multiple content options depending on the use case.

Considerations for Combined Attendance & Multi-Session Certificates

When using Combined Attendance & Multi-Session certificates, the Program TItle, Delivery Format, and Program Location fields are not managed the same way as with single-session certificates.

Program Title

  1. To set the Program Title, navigate to Certificate Configurations & Settings from the admin panel
  2. Set a program name, then click Save

Delivery Format and Program Location

The delivery format and program location fields are not dynamically populated in combined attendance & multi-session certificates, as these values are session-level and can change over the course of an event. When using combined attendance & multi-session certificates, Conferences i/o recommends duplicating the desired template, then replacing these fields with static text fields.

  1. To duplicate an existing template, click Duplicate on the template to copy in the Certificate Builder menu

  2. Provide the duplicate an appropriate name

  3. Click Customize Look & Feel on the new template, then replace the Delivery Format and Program Location fields with static fields indicating the appropriate values
