Using Social Q&A for Upvoting Ideas

The Social Q&A feature is an awesome feature that allows attendees to submit questions and up-vote the questions from other users. But it doesn't have to just be questions! The Q&A feature can be a great way to have users submit their Ideas, Thoughts or Feedback which the audience can then up-vote!

With a few simple lines of code into the Branding page of your app, you can re-label the Q&A screen. Feel free to reach out to support@conferences.io for help or follow these steps.

Here's an example of re-labeling Q&A with the heading of "Feedback/Ideas" and the Ask button is changed to "Submit".

To set this up, visit the Admin (settings) area of your app and look for the menu choice called Branding & Custom CSS.

Carefully copy and paste the following lines (starting with "<script>" and ending with "</script>") and paste them into the bottom box called Custom Head Section. For any phrase shown below in "quotes", you can change that text to be your preferred labeling. The first 3 custom labels appear on the initial screen for Q&A. The other labels appear when a user goes to submit their entry.

<script>
    var custom_labels = {
        session_dashboard_qa: "Ideas List",
        session_dashboard_ask: "Submit",
        session_dashboard_no_questions: "There are no entries right now...",
        ask_question_header: "Add an idea",
        ask_question_field_label: "What's your idea?",
        question_added_transition_normal: "Your entry is being added! Please wait just a moment ...",
question_added_transition_filter: "Your entry is being added. Because the Q&A Filter is enabled, a Moderator must approve it first.",
ask_question_filter_message: "After submitting, your entry will enter a moderation queue for approval."
};
</script>

NOTE: After saving the lines above into your app, the effect will be immediate and it will be reflected in all sessions. If you have just a specific session where you'd like this change, reach out to us for help, or if you are technically inclined, you can follow the following sample code that lets you target a specific session for custom labels. You'll need to discover the 4-character session code of the session where you'd like new labels (your browser's address bar will show this), and replace the "mh9w" example in the code below with the 4-character session code in your app.

<script>
    var this_url = window.location.href;
    if (this_url.indexOf("/sessions/mh9w/") > 0 ){

    var custom_labels = {
        session_dashboard_qa: "Feedback/Ideas",
        session_dashboard_ask: "Submit"
 };
    }
</script>
