Overview
After creating poll questions, it's often desirable to test them to see how they'll look and function.
There are a variety of ways to test a poll. If you plan to use PowerPoint, Keynote or a web browser to conduct your polls at your future event, we recommend that you test your polls with that same tool or process.
Test using PowerPoint on a Windows PC
- Ensure that you have the PowerPoint Add-In installed. You'll know that it installed successfully if you have an additional menu choice for "Conferences i/o". If you need to troubleshoot the installation of the Add-In, see this article.
- Ensure that you have inserted the Live Content slides for any poll questions you have created. There are 3 methods to do so, covered in this article. Or see this short video that covers the first method.
- Use a mobile device to open the Conferences i/o website (e.g., xxxx.cnf.io) and if needed, choose the session that houses your poll questions.
- On your Windows PC, start your slideshow and when you arrive to a Live Content slide, the poll question should appear on your mobile device for your response. After submitting a response, the result should appear on your Windows PC. You can see a short video demonstration here.
- If you need to troubleshoot an issue with poll results not appearing (or not appearing correctly) on your Windows PC, please click here.
Test using PowerPoint or Keynote on a Mac
- Ensure that you have the Map App installed. You'll know that it installed successfully and that it is running if you see the small Conferences i/o icon at the top of your screen (see sample).
- Ensure that you have inserted the Live Content slides for any poll questions into your presentation. See this article for that process.
- Use a mobile device to open the Conferences i/o website (e.g., xxxx.cnf.io) and if needed, choose the session that houses your poll questions.
- On your Mac computer, start your slideshow and when you arrive to a Live Content slide, the poll question should appear on your mobile device for your response. After submitting a response, the result should appear on your Mac computer.
Test using Presentation Mode (in a browser)
- Use a mobile device to open the Conferences i/o website (e.g., xxxx.cnf.io) and if needed, choose the session that houses your poll questions.
- On your computer, open the Conferences i/o website (e.g., xxxx.cnf.io) and if needed, choose the session that houses your poll questions. Click on Session Settings (use 'Sign in to Moderate' first, if needed). Under the heading for Presentations, look for Easy Presentation Mode (if available), and/or Presentation Mode (Runs in Browser). If you don't see either option, contact us at support@conferences.io for assistance.
- When you open a poll via Presentation Mode , the poll question should appear on your mobile device for your response. After submitting a response, the result should appear in your browser.
You can also quickly test a poll via the manual unlock button. We have a short video that demonstrates this technique. To manually unlock a poll, click the small padlock shown beside that poll as shown below, and use a mobile device or a different browser to vote (respond) to the poll. To see poll results, click on the poll question.
Note: To clear (erase) your poll responses, see our brief article that describes the two different methods to clear poll responses.
Viewing as an Attendee
We recommend that you use a different device (mobile or computer), an incognito/private browser window, or a different browser to join your session as an Attendee. This will allow you to continue to make changes on the back end without the hassle of logging in and out to check the experience, while also allowing you to test the experience of the attendees first-hand.
